Sodality

Some of you may not be familiar with Sodality but it has a long and rich history in the Catholic Church. It was actually sparked by the Protestant revolution. A Jesuit priest teaching at their college in Rome felt that his students needed more spiritual support during this challenging time. There was a little altar of the Blessed Virgin at the college with flowers placed all around it; much like our statue here in church. As he gazed at her image it inspired him to create a program that would bring our Blessed Mother actively into their lives and hearts; especially since there was such an attempt being made then to exile her from churches. He encouraged the boys to love Mary with a deep devotion. This was the birth of Sodality Organizations. In the beginning, like most things historically, it was for men only. In fact many Pope's have been members. It wasn't until the 1700's that women were admitted resulting in a tremendous growth in Sodality organizations around the world.

Sodality simply means affiliation, organization or fellowship. We are also the WOMENS GROUP OF OLPH. We are guided by our devotion to Mother Mary. We ask ourselves: What would Mary Do? and allow that to determine our words and actions. We volunteer our time and resources to support the needs of our parish. For example we are replacing the Statue of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help which has been returned to the Mission. We also help those in need. Near Veterans Day we host a pancake breakfast with the Men’s' Club to raise money for a Phoenix based organization called Veterans First who focus on helping female vets get back on their feet. In December we adopt families from Vista Del Camino and have the thrill of bringing the magic of Christmas to them. In February we throw a wonderful a baby shower & potluck dinner and bring gifts and hold a raffle to raise money for local pro-life organizations. We become closer to Jesus through Mary.

We attend a monthly mass together followed by a brief meeting with refreshments and uplifting speakers. If you are ready to meet new friends who have the same desire to deepen their faith and devotion as you do. Who like to have fun and who share your values- please join us. Today with so much confusion, tragedy and madness in the world it is nice to deepen our connection with our Blessed Mother as this 100th anniversary of Fatima has reminded us; we need her support now more than ever....
