Liturgical Ministries

"It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness ...It is Jesus who   stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives..."

St. John Paul II

Sacristan

Sacristans, prior to each liturgy, ensures that  all elements necessary for that celebration are ready (preparing the vessels and other articles for the Mass).

Lectors

At every celebration of the Mass God speaks to us through the proclamation of the Word. Those who feel called to proclaim God’s Word to the gathered assembly are appointed as Lectors in the community. Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the Mass. Lectors are commissioned lay persons who are at least 16 years of age, have been fully initiated into the Church, and are able to receive Holy Communion themselves.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute Holy Communion to the faithful during Mass. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are commissioned lay persons who are at least 16 years of age, have been fully initiated into the Church, and are able to receive Holy Communion themselves.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers assist the Priest in the Sanctuary during Mass. Specific responsibilities include carrying the processional cross & candles, holding the Roman Missal for the Priest, assisting the Deacon in preparing the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, assisting the priest in receiving the gifts and helping with the hand washing of the priest during the preparation of the gifts.

Broadcast Celtics & ProPresenter

Broadcast Celtics assist with the broadcast of the livestream of the Mass.

ProPresenter ministers with the projection of lyrics  of songs during mass as well as differnent anoumncements.

Art & Environment Ministry

Art & Environment Ministry assist with environmental aspects of the liturgical year, such as the flowers, ribbons, drapes and other items. They oversee the changes of liturgical colors during the different seasons of the Church. This is a great, simple ministry for bringing others closer to Christ by better reflecting heaven on earth.

Linen Care

Linen Care  ministers assist our priest with the cleaning of the many albs, purificators and others items used during the Mass.

Music Ministry

Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship (USCCB) states in one of its paragraphs:

48. The whole assembly is actively involved in the music of the Liturgy. Some members of the community, however, are recognized for the special gifts they exhibit in leading the musical praise and thanksgiving of Christian assemblies. These are the liturgical musicians, as described in section E, above, and their ministry is especially cherished by the Church.

49. Liturgical musicians are first of all disciples, and only then are they ministers. Joined to Christ through the Sacraments of Initiation, musicians belong to the assembly of the baptized faithful; they are worshipers above all else. Like other baptized members of the assembly, pastoral musicians need to hear the Gospel, experience conversion, profess faith in Christ, and so proclaim the praise of God. Thus, musicians who server the Church at prayer are not merely employees or volunteers. They are ministers who share the faith, serve the community, and express the love of God and neighbor through music.

There are volunteer positions available in the Music Ministry for those who feel the call to share their gift of music.

  • Member of the Choir: usually we are divided into Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass singers. It would be important for you to have the ability to read music, at least as a beginner to intermediate level.
  • Cantor: the cantor sings the responsorial psalm during the scriptures (Liturgy of the Word) and occasionally leads the verses in a song during Mass. This person also invites the assembly to sing in certain parts of the Mass.
  • Instrumentalists: although it is not always easy to incorporate every instrument in the Mass, there are a few instruments which are needed regularly. We can use guitar players, flautists, oboists and violinists for some of our Masses. This would be discussed with the director of music.
  • Accompanist: they play the organ or the piano during rehearsals and some Masses, depending on the need.
  • Choir Conductor: this person guides the choir in their entrances, helps them in their dynamic range during the singing and helps the choir become cohesive in their sound.
